Final days: Virgin’s double status credit promo ending soon
Supercharge your Velocity status credits balance on flights as far off as December 31.
Velocity frequent flyers, start your engines. Or rather, start booking your next flight, because the second Virgin Australia double status credits promo of 2023 is now in its final days, with midnight August 3 the cut-off for booking flights as far out as New Year’s Eve.
To take advantage of this double helping of status credits, simply login to your Velocity account, click on My Velocity and then navigate to the My Offers section, where you’ll see the Bonus Status Credits offer listed. Hit ‘Activate’ and you’re ready to go.
If you’re using the app, it’s even easier, with the promo listed under Offers.
This new Virgin double status offer is available on bookings across the full Virgin Australia network, including domestic, trans-Tasman and international short haul.
A valid Velocity number must be entered at the time of booking, and you need to do it before midnight on August 3. Don’t worry though, you don’t have to travel before that date – the promotion is eligible for departures until December 31.
Virgin’s latest double-dip is sure to be of interest to frequent travellers, with the additional status credits a handy way to rocket from Red to Silver, Gold and Platinum.
To put it into perspective, a one-way business class flight from Sydney to Brisbane would normally earn 55 status credits. Thanks to this latest promo, you would pocket a tidy 110 points.
With just one return trip, you’d almost have the 250 credits needed to achieve Silver status, and be well on your way to the 500 for Gold.
There is some fine print you need to be aware of though:
- Codeshare tickets or flights operated by partner airlines (that includes ANA, United, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines) are not eligible for this offer
- The promo is only valid for new bookings, so any made before today will be ineligible
- Status credits cannot be earned on Velocity reward seat bookings
Rival Qantas also offers double status credits at various times of the year.

This is what is letting VA down, with over 1800 status credits already; there is no benefit to jump on board with a double status credit promotion.

Yes total agree, hardcore flyers with 1800 status credits and above don't get any benefits, No P1 one, surely they can offer benefits once you hit 2800 status credits;
-Another Platinum Card to give away
-50,000 points
-5 Beyond Passes
-Beyond phone service
Just to name a few options

Do you have to book flights through Virgin once the offer is activated?
I have a few thousand in credits with a travel agent.

There's nothing in the T&Cs that says that you have to book through Virgin. I have certainly received double status credits from previous promotions when I booked (and got the discount) through American Express Platinum Travel.

I'm new to virgin's loyalty scheme having been rusted on Qantas for some time so this promo interests me. Can family pooling be used to pool double status credits as well as 'regular' status credits?

Yes, you can still family pool with double status offers.

I would assume so but keen to get this confirmed from someone else who has done before.
I’m 400 status credits away from platinum. Just need to fly 1 way business class with Mrs from Sydney to North Queensland and we hit the 400 with DSC.

I’m looking at business class from Sydney to Mackay. The leg from Brisbane to Mackay is actually economy on an alliance Fokker jet. It’s definitely shown as 110 status credits. Can anyone confirm that it would still be double status credits?

That's a bit of a grey area. If the Alliance flight has a VA flight number I would've assumed it counts, but looking at the terms and conditions, it states Virgin Australia marketed and "operated".

Has anyone else found it next to impossible to use their 4 free platinum upgrades with VA on any flights to Bali or Nadi ex Australia? I just went to book a flight to Bali over 10 months out from the date of travel and was told we are generally only release the free upgrade seats for platinum members closer to the date of travel (ie if they cannot sell them).
This was the only real benefit of VA Platinum.

Mightyreds, you've really hit a nerve with me on this (I'm in total agreement). These 'alleged' 4 free Platinum Upgrades are now virtually worthless TO ME because IMHO Virgin doesn't have enough J-class seats to satisfy demand for $-paying pax, let alone give them to Platinum members who've paid to an Eco seat. Whilst this practice does not cross the LEGAL threshold of 'false and misleading advertising', from a personal viewpoint I feel my intelligence has been offended when I read it. To be frank, I feel as though I've been lied to. AND it poses a commercial conflict with their "Bid for an Upgrade" revenue line. Honestly, I don't think Virgin quite realises the brand damage they're doing to themselves.
It would be better if occupancy of those seats were assigned to the Captain, First Officer or Chief Attendant to give as a complimentary upgrade to a Platinum member sitting in Eco.
It's a pity, because Virgin does a great job when it comes to helping with Rewards Flights for annual family holidays, but that's using points that I 'already own'.
Farewell Buddy.

Agree, as this was the only real benefit of platinum, I will do enough to retain gold and then move on. I also believe we have been lied to/misled. I said to the Australian based platinum agent, you could give us 50 free upgrades 'subject to availability' but if VA are not releasing the seats, what good is it.

Been there with you Bro. But with only 8 J-class seats on Bali sectors, you'd be lucky to get just one upgrade let alone 2 or more for a family. The best 'deal' for Platinums going to Bali is to book reward seats in Rows 3-5, the extra leg room makes the difference (as does keeping the Amex in your top pocket).

Yes luckily enough that's the seats we have booked for October this year, However Boeing-Tragic you will see the irony in this had a trip booked for March three days before Co-Vid 19closed the airways and had Business class freebies booked for both going to and home from Bali, then boom no trip and now two trips later sorry sir no available seats LOL

I think that 'Offer' was designed by the same genius (obviously an intern yet to finish Marketing-101 at Uni) who designed the "Don't miss Out - Offer Ending Soon" campaign for members of the Business Flyer program.
WARNING: If you're even mildly asthmatic, get you Asmol inhaler now before reading further . . . .
So the deal is, you'll get $600 (i.e. six hundred dollars) in future flight credits if you book 60 (I said SIXTY) flights by August 7th (2023) and fly them within 30 (yes folks, that's 'THIRTY') days. So let's call that 30 return flights. I think the cheapest fully flexible return fare is ADL-MEL-ADL for $646. So if you drop $19,380 on airfares, they'll give you $600. Keep in mind this is the Business Flier program.
C'mon Jayne, I think we deserve a smarter deal. My 17yo under-graduate daughter, a casual check-out chick at Coles, can do better. Will be interesting to see if I'm alone in these views. Green arrow or Red arrow - pick one and click.
